STEP 1: Shampoo and condition your hair with hydrating curl-enhancing products.

STEP 2: Towel dry hair, blotting gently rather than rubbing, to avoid creating frizz or knots.

STEP 3: Spray a detangling leave-in conditioner from roots to ends. If your hair is fine, add a texturizing mousse or cream, working it through your hair with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb.

STEP 4: Distribute a curling cream from roots to ends.

STEP 5: Blow-dry your roots until hair is about 50 percent dry, blowing hair in the opposite direction from the way it normally falls. If you have bangs, blow-dry them straight and to the side.

STEP 6: Once hair is partly dry, wrap 2-inch square sections into a pin curl and secure with a bobby pin. To achieve a pin curl, wrap hair around one finger and push with the other hand onto the head to form a circle.

STEP 7: Diffuse hair until it’s completely dry and spray a fine mist of a flexible-hold hair spray.

STEP 8: Release the pins one by one and run fingers through the curls, loosening them.

STEP 9: Finish with an all-over mist of high-shine hair spray.
