Tip of the Day

Wrap a long, lightweight, solid-color scarf around your waist and knot it loosely just in front of one hip bone. The dangling ends will make you look longer and leaner. More Tips >

Mulberry’s Moment

To be fair, I need to preface this with the confession that I am obsessed with the color mulberry. I think of mulberry as a deep raspberry dipped in chocolate, a description that probably gives you a good sense of just how much I love this shade! When mulberry is on the lips, there’s nothing beauty-related that makes me quite as happy.

I love mulberry in the spring, when it takes center stage, and as an unexpected choice on a warm summer night with a white cotton dress. I love mulberry in autumn when it’s beautifully complemented by both the warmer colors in our wardrobes and by the season’s foliage. And mulberry is my favorite lip color in winter, when it’s a nice reprieve from the red pout everyone is showing at holiday parties.

Mulberry lips are surprisingly easy to wear, as long as you keep you whole look in mind. Whether you choose a daring matte texture, a softer satin or a take-it-tame gloss, mulberry lips need balance. Yes, that chocolate-raspberry kisser is your makeup focal point, but it needs support in the eyes and cheeks. Depending on your preference, skin can stay dewy or matte. Eyes should have a clean sweep of a nude shimmery color washed over the entire eyelid. That will create a clean backdrop for darkened lashes. Curl your lashes and apply two coats of mascara. Next, brush a swipe of a mulberry-compatible blue-toned pink blush on the apples of your cheeks. Then, dress up your mouth with two layers of your mulberry lipstick or gloss. No need for lip liner -- that’s for the timid, not a daring mulberry-lipped goddess like you!
