Tip of the Day

Wrap a long, lightweight, solid-color scarf around your waist and knot it loosely just in front of one hip bone. The dangling ends will make you look longer and leaner. More Tips >

Beauty Tips From the Olympics
Tasha Reiko Brown is a celebrity makeup artist who helps get young Hollywood radiant for photo shoots and countless red carpet events, including the Oscars, Emmys and Golden Globes. She writes frequently for The Style Glossy.

Want to stay in the Olympics spirit now that the games have ended? Go for gold in the style event by taking cues from this Olympiad’s brightest stars. In addition to being current, these looks are already endurance-tested and athlete-approved, which means your look should last through the workday with ease.

Sleek Chignon
Red-carpet chignons have been loosely pulled back with lots of flyaways, but the new gymnast version takes a stricter approach. As the competitors effortlessly fly though the air, hurtling themselves into tumbles and backflips, not a single hair on their heads moves. To get this lasting look, use your favorite styling cream to pull your hair straight back and slightly upward to form a tight ponytail. Wrap remaining hair around the ponytail base and secure with bobby pins as you create a neat and chic high-placed bun.

Bold Eye Color
Whether the Olympians were competing in track or gymnastics events, eye color ruled the day. This fall, go bold with pops of teal or plum. The trick is to not overdo it, so choose just one standout shade. Using a loosely bristled brush, apply a quick swipe of the shadow over your lids and blend well. To keep things “Olympic” rather than “circus,” go light on the lips with a sheer balm or shimmer-free gloss. The end result will be clean and bold.

Stay-put Makeup
Long after the swimmers synchronized and the runners rounded the track to the medal ceremony, their makeup stayed in place. How? Textures! Layers! Instead of powders, which will melt away, try creams with an oil base to repel water and sweat. My favorite layering trick is to use creams first, and then set with a powder of the same shade. It adds an extra step to your beauty routine, but it ensures your look will last throughout the day.
