Tip of the Day

Wrap a long, lightweight, solid-color scarf around your waist and knot it loosely just in front of one hip bone. The dangling ends will make you look longer and leaner. More Tips >

As models stomp (or glide) down fashion show runways in expensive frocks, trends are born for the season. And not just trends in fashion, but in beauty as well. Cosmetic palettes are launched backstage between an artist and a face, and eventually, an interpretation of that collaboration makes its way to a counter near you.

My report comes to you straight from the tents of fashion. The big look of the season: a clean face with a bold moist lip. The return of that glossy bold lip ruled shows like Marc Jacobs and Rodarte. And peachy cheeks replaced the usual bronzed ones. Pale was appreciated, and a natural glow was key.

Warmer weather calls for less coverage. For your own spring look, start with a clean light foundation or concealer. Curl and coat lashes with mascara. You can skip shadow altogether or use a quick sweep of a shimmery pale neutral color to catch the light. Adding a touch of mascara to the eye balances the bold lip. Apply a light sweep of peachy blush on the apples of your cheeks.

For your lips, choose a bold color that’s comfortable for you. Think bright pinks and brave corals. An orange-based red also has a nice pop. To keep the look casual, skip the lip liner and go straight to the tube. For extra staying powder, add a gloss in a similar hue on top. Want it less bold? Skip the lipstick and opt for a solo act of pigmented gloss!
