Seasonal Makeup
Makeup Mirror
Some summer beauty bests fit perfectly into your fall and holiday beauty routines. But not every item from August’s makeup bag will make the cut. Here's a quick guide on what to keep loving and what to put on a seasonal hiatus.
Keep that bronzer a-glowing!
In winter months, you’ll still want to mimic the sun’s healthy glow and keep sallow skin at bay. I like matte bronzers best for fall, but a shimmery bronzer can be season-appropriate with a layer of a matte blush.
Keep the gloss a-going!
When winter hits and office parties abound, lips tend to go more creamy, satin or matte. Topped with gloss, lipstick takes an elegant, unexpected turn and gives your lip color staying power. It also saves mattes from looking too dry when cooler winds chap your lips.
Rotate your lighter foundation to the front of the drawer.
Your skin tone lightens in cooler weather. You'll find that your deeper summer color foundation will begin to look two-toned against paler fall skin.
Say bye-bye to brights.
Cute and quirky in summer, elegant and refined in fall -- that’s how I roll. Brights are still great with the grayscale colors of fall, but I like them in their less primary forms. I usually choose deeper, more jewel-toned versions of my favorite vivid hot-weather shades. Remember, the sunlight isn't bright enough to compete anymore, and brights tend to look garish in cloudy weather. Winter’s subdued fashion palette demands a more muted face.
