Day to Night
Makeup Mirror
Legendary! That’s what Teena Marie is. I was fortunate enough to get the singer ready for recent press interviews. I stayed within her comfort zone and accentuated her natural coloring with browns and pinks, keeping everything soft, muted and classy. I simply took her makeup from the earlier part of the day and turned it up a few notches.
If you’re going from office lights to candlelight, by day’s end, your makeup will have settled and worn off a little. Revive your skin with a quick spritz of mineral water facial spray. With Teena, this helped “wake up” her skin and let me move her makeup around her face easily. I started blending in a bit more foundation with my fingers where needed, then reapplied her blush on the apples of her cheeks. You can use a bit more blush than usual for a fresh, well-rested appearance.
Next, I changed up her look with a soft, smoky eye. The fastest way for a smoky eye is to apply a soft pencil to the inner rims of your eyes. It’s my favorite trick! I took a kohl pencil and lined her inner rims, then went over her upper lash lines on top of her original liner. I blended the pencil on her upper lids with my fingers to soften the lines and keep the light, smoky eye diffused. A quick re-curling of the upper lashes and more mascara gave her eyes depth. Finally, I reapplied her lipstick with a lighter touch and added gloss on top so I wouldn’t overpower the eyes.
You don’t have to reinvent your look to go from day to night. It’s easier to stay with the same tones and colors from earlier. Just use a bit more and blend well so your look is seamless.
