4 Beauty Gifts I’m Giving Myself Now!
Shelley Levitt, managing editor of The Style Glossy, is a former West Coast editor of Self and senior writer at People.

The holidays are done, and all the gifts are now unwrapped. After all that giving and getting, I declare a shopping moratorium ... except, that is, for a few beauty items for myself. Here’s what’s on my list now that you might want to add to yours too. Hey, we deserve it!

1. A long-lasting lipstick.
In the past, you paid a steep price for a lipstick that didn’t budge: a dry, chalky finish. With new liquid formulations, long-lasting lipsticks eliminate the need for touchups and have a healthy glossy finish. I’m going to find the one that’s perfect for me in the shade of the season -- mulberry.

2. A BB cream.
This hybrid moisturizer/sunscreen/foundation is just the thing for those days when you’re in a hurry -- almost every day, in other words -- and don’t need heavy coverage. Just about every makeup line has a BB cream today. I’m going to look for one that matches my skin tone, has a dewy finish and doesn’t break the bank.

3. A new curling tool.
I love the looks I saw on the fashion runway -- loose curls, barely-there waves, crimped curls. I’ve never been able to achieve maximum waves with a blow dryer and hairbrush alone, so I’ll be looking for one heat tool that’s easy to master and has lots of versatility.

4. False eyelashes.
It’s not the biggest goal I’ve set for 2013, but mastering false eyelashes is definitely on the list. The knockout fringe you see on the red carpet isn’t achieved with mascara alone. Every makeup artist I interview says individual lashes or strip lashes cut into small sections is their secret high-glam weapon. And, they promise me, it can be mastered with just a few sessions in front of the mirror. I’ll be putting that promise to the test!
