I’m always updating my beauty staples. I worked with the truly flawless Brittany Snow at an outdoor photo shoot that took advantage of the sunshine. I started with a beautiful light makeup (Brittany is one of those young actresses who never needs much at all), which looked especially fresh in the natural light. Remember, midsummer isn’t the only time of year the sun appears. I opted for lighter, sheerer products with sheen to them that played off the sunlight. The result was lovely natural makeup with lots of glow.

To get a summer glow any time of year, switch to lighter, creamier textures. Instead of foundation, try tinted moisturizer. Trade your powder blush for a convenient stick or cream formula. Swap your lipstick-gloss combo for just gloss or tinted lip balm. I love a good stain for lips and cheeks! It’s quick, easy and requires minimal upkeep. Try your favorite eyeshade in a stay-put cream, perhaps with added shimmer.

If you want more coverage, cover up blemishes or uneven skin pigmentation with a touch of concealer over your tinted moisturizer. If you absolutely can’t forsake lipstick, choose a satin or sheer finish rather than matte. Or try applying lip liner over your whole lip surface area, followed with lip balm for sheen.

Be sure to resist the urge to turn your face into a mini disco ball! Too much glow will turn greasy by midday. Pick just one or two makeup products with shimmer and call it a day.
