The Most Flattering Necklines for Your Hairstyle
Guest Blogger
From scoop necks and turtlenecks to plunging necklines and halters, women have a remarkable variety of neckline options for sweaters, dresses and blouses. So how do you know which style looks best on you? Start by selecting the best-fit neckline for your hairstyle.
Short Hairstyles
Short top hairstyles allow the focus to be on your face and outfit, leaving you with plenty of flattering neckline choices. The following necklines elongate the face and look great with layered necklaces and long earrings:
- V-neck: dips to a shallow point in the front of the neck
- Strapless: strap-free with either sweetheart or straight coverage of bust
- Halter top: triangular point in front that fastens at the back of the neck
- Scoop neck: U-shaped neckline that shows off neckline and cleavage
Medium-length Hairstyles
Wide, shallow neckline cuts or styles that stay snug to the neck’s base are the best match for medium-length hairstyles.
- Boatneck: wide, open cut with sleeves resting off the shoulders
- Crew neck: round, collarless neckline that fits snuggly around the base of the neck
- Empire cut: square with horizontal coverage of the bust
- Jewel neck: round neckline that follows the base of the neck; usually found on t-shirts
Long Hairstyles
Just about any neckline will work with long hair. Among those that look the most graceful are:
- Deep V-neck: plunging dip to show off cleavage
- Deep asymmetrical cut: off-centered V-neck style
with a cut-out or dip favoring one side only - Sweetheart neckline: heart-shaped coverage of the bust
